Anyways, I've been clearing out my stash for a few years now. My passions in life are now elsewhere. I'm pregnant with a baby boy due this October, so perhaps this last destash is my nesting instincts kicking in. Most of the super rare ones are long gone.
I'm back today with another post, can you believe it?! I know, I know. Anyway, today's post is one that I was supposed to do many moons ago that never happened and I wanted to make good on my promise, so here I am! It is the return of Fug Friday with my friend Rach over at stuff i (s)watched! It's quite fitting that I am posting this today, in fact, because the weather here in Cleveland is pretty fug itself. Cold, grey, wet - definitely not a good start to Memorial Day Weekend. A fug polish for a fug day! And don't forget to check out Rachel's most recent Fug Friday post here: stuff i (s)watched - Fug Friday!

Rach and I decided to do a series of Fug Friday posts after discussing one day how much we loved polish that isn't conventionally good looking. The ugly duckling polishes, one might say. The guideline for our Fug Friday is basically this: does it resemble a bodily secretion? If yes, it makes the Fug Friday cut! There's nothing better than a baby poop brown or puke green polish to start the day off right, am I right? But seriously, I am all for polishes that go beyond the realm of the usual pretty, bright, sparkly, glittery polishes that are all the rage these days. Give me a drab mustard yellow polish over pink sparkles any day.

The vintage lover that I am, I figured why not kill two birds with one stone. Today I present to you Revlon Streetwear Moody. Here's the thing about Moody - it is quite possibly the ugliest polish I have ever laid eyes on in my entire life. It doesn't have that whole ugly-pretty thing going on and not even a face that a mother would love. It's horrendous. I don't see how anyone in their right mind could like this polish. I tried, I really did. I mean, it has this whole 90's grunge vibe going for it so it can't be too bad, right? WRONG. IT'S ALL WRONG.

Moody has a brown sheer base (yes, it's as awful as it sounds) with light blue shimmer. The base is so sheer than it lends a nice yellow cast to the nail. And that's what everyone wants, right? A nice yellow nail! Um, no thank you! Since I've significantly slowed down with the nail blogging these days, my nails actually spend a fair amount of time naked. My nails no longer have that yellow tinge to them that I would get after wearing nail polish all the time. Yes, my nails are white! And this polish makes them look like I have some sort of exotic fungus. Delish. A friend on Twitter once compared this polish to "radioactive bong water" and I couldn't agree more.

I hereby present to you the ugliest polish on Earth, Revlon Streetwear Moody. This is 4 painstaking coats of a truly horrendously formulated polish. It was runny, it never dried and it quite literally, looks like poo. Please forgive the photography skills kiddos, I'm still not back on my nail blogging mojo. Anyways, here you go! Don't blame me if you feel a little queasy afterwards. Consider this your warning!

Come on guys. Tell me how ugly this is! I can take it =)

Talk to you guys soon <3The Scholarly Nail's Wax Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15130398624901106511noreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257710695715677931.post-19194387019403693312013-05-22T11:24:00.000-04:002013-05-22T11:24:28.633-04:00Pure Ice Heartbreaker over Revlon RoyalHI GUYS!!! Long time no see, eh?! Instead of excuses, I come bearing pictures!! Today I have for you all a manicure I have been wanting to do for awhile, Pure Ice Heartbreaker over Revlon Royal. These two polishes are truly a match made in heaven.

Revlon Royal is a gorgeous deep royal blue jelly in Revlon's Top Dry line. The formula of this polish was thick but relatively easy to work with. If this polish was any thinner, it would have been flood city and as pigmented as this polish is, it would have been a nightmare to do cuticle clean up. I usually prefer my polishes a bit thinner but I was grateful that Royal was as thick as it was. After 2 coats of Royal, I did one coat of Pure Ice Heartbreaker on top, a gorgeous green shimmer. I believe Heartbreaker is still available but last time I saw, the formula had changed and it wasn't nearly as shimmery as it was before and had a milky base. I'm glad to still have a bottle of the original version.

The only disappointment with this manicure was the drying time. As Royal is supposed to be from the quick drying line, I expected a quick drying time. Sounds reasonable, yes? Well, even with taking short breaks between coats and my handy dandy Seche Vite topcoat, I am writing this post a few hours later and I am still able to dent the polish if I try. Not really a fan of that aspect of the polish. But, it looks really fantastic so I suppose I can look past its shortcomings. I mean, if I can wait hours for my Kleancolor Metallics to dry, I can forgive Revlon Royal for a bit of dentiness (NEW WORD ALERT!).

Pictured is two coats of Revlon Royal and one coat of Pure Ice Heartbreaker. As I've digressed from being a regular nail blogger, my nails are a bit misshappen, my cuticles a bit dry and my pictures kind of blurry. But hopefully you guys can look past all that and see how amazeballs this combo is!
Thanks for stopping by today friends! I probably still will not be posting regularly but I will be checking in every once in a while with a new manicure =) I miss you all and hope you all are doing well <3The Scholarly Nail's Wax Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15130398624901106511noreply@blogger.com29tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257710695715677931.post-63524373404122390232013-01-27T09:02:00.004-05:002013-01-27T09:02:58.305-05:00Retro Sunday Squared - OPI Creme de MentheHappy Sunday my lovelies! Dana at Polished Claws Up and I are back today with another edition of Retro Sunday Squared. We're bringing out the big guns today folks - VINTAGE GREEN OPI's!! Ahh! So excited!! Don't forget to check out Dana's post, she is showing off one of the polishes we found dusty hunting together this past summer!

Today I will be sharing with you OPI Creme de Menthe, possibly one of the top 3 most rare OPI greens in existence. This one never pops up on eBay and even through my extensive dusty hunting adventures, I have never seen a bottle of this anywhere. Why is this polish so rare? Because it is from 1989! Yes, 1989 which makes this bottle of polish 24 years old! That is almost as old as I am =) This is by far one of the oldest polishes in my stash. But as old as it is, OPI Creme de Menthe is absolutely gorgeous! Creme de Menthe was part of OPI's "X" Collection, and not much is known about this collection. It contained other now-VHTF polishes such as Rainforest, Real Teal and Iridescent Opal.

OPI Creme de Menthe is a mint green with gold shimmer. I have seen many near dupes of Creme de Menthe but none of them were ever quite as vibrant or as shimmery as it. You would think that in the 24 years since this polish has been released, someone would have come out with a viable dupe. I know that Lindsay over at Yacking about Lacquer came up with a dupe of it and it was definitely the closest I have seen. But as far as the big retail brands go, I haven't seen anything close. This is a very special polish.

The formula on this one was kind of meh - it was actually kind of thick for an old non-3-free polish. It was a bit streaky and kind of hard to even out. Nonetheless, it is still gorgeous and I can't begrudge a 24 year old polish its formula. I'll thin it out a bit next time but for now, the formula was workable.

Here's 3 coats of OPI Creme de Menthe. I took a boatload of pictures and couldn't decide which ones I liked the best, so here's a bunch! Enjoy =)
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday! Today Dana and I are back for another edition of Retro Sunday Squared! For those just joining us, Retro Sunday Squared is when Dana over at Polished Claws Up and I share some of our vintage nail polish gems. We have chosen to showcase some of our vintage Maybelline Express Finish polishes on this fine Sunday in January. Vintage Maybellines are some of Dana's and my favorite old school polishes, and for good reason - they are awesome! They had so many fantastic collections, finishes, and colors back in the day. Due to time constraints, we are only going to show one polish each today but I promise they are good ones!

I have to share with you all today Maybelline Electric Apple. Electric Apple is a lovely (albeit frosty) bright apple green polish. I first fell in love with this shade when Kaz over at Pretty Random swatched this for her blog. Her picture of it is much more beautiful so definitely check it out! Anyways, Electric Apple never was released in the US, so not only is it vintage, but it is even more hard to find because it was released in the UK and not here in the States. I ended up finding this on Amazon UK. Oh, the places we will go to find our vintage polishes! This bright, metallic green polish is definitely one of the stand outs in my Maybelline collection. The frostiness lends itself to the metallic finish and I don't mind it at all. I know frost is the devil in the nail polish world, but as I've said before, I have a certain affinity for frosty polishes.

So pictured here is 3 coats of Maybelline Electric Apple in all of its frosty glory! Enjoy =)
Happy Sunday everyone!

Today Dana and I have for you some vintage holiday Revlon Streetwears! Of course, Revlon Streetwear is one of my all-time favorite vintage brands and I feel very lucky to have quite a few of the holiday ones in my collection. All of the ones that I am going to show you all today are quite rare, and I never thought I would own any of them in my lifetime!

A quick note - my cuticles are absolutely ravaged right now. I have been so busy with school and finals, getting ready for the holidays and then the blog sale this past week that I have just not been caring for them like I should. I have naturally AWFUL cuticles anyways so it's just difficult to keep them up to par in the winter anyways. So be warned, my cuticles are awful this week!

Don't forget to check out Dana's Holiday Streetwear post over at Polished Claws Up!

First up is Revlon Streetwear Rudolph. Rudolph is a red glitter in a clear base. Pretty standard, but essential for any Streetwear collector. The formula of Rudolph was pretty tricky. It was thick and gloopy and upon my first coat of it, I realized that there was no way this glitter was going to be opaque. So, on top of that first coat of glitter, I layered a coat of Revlon Streetwear Mrs. Claus, a red jelly from Streetwear's holiday collection as well. The effect of this jelly sandwich was amazing! It looked like China Glaze Ruby Slippers! I layered another coat of Rudolph on top of that and it was perfect. Just gorgeous! I am definitely going to be wearing this combo again before the holidays are over. It just screams Christmas to me!

So here's 1 coat of Streetwear Rudolph, 1 coat of Streetwear Mrs. Claus and 1 more coat of Streetwear Rudolph. Enjoy!

Next up is Revlon Streetwear Kwanza (yes, that is the way this polish is spelled even though the correct spelling for the holiday is "Kwanzaa"). This is probably one of the rarest Streetwears I own and one of the most unique polishes in my entire stash. Kwanza has a clear base with green square glitter, thin red bar glitter and then a thicker black bar glitter. I don't have any polish with that combination of glitters, nor do I know of any!

I've decided to show you guys Kwanza over two different polishes today to showcase the different types of glitter. First, I've layered it over a pure black to let the red bar and green square glitters shine! But I always wanted to show you all the black bar glitters as well, so Streetwear Mrs. Claus to the rescue again! I layered Kwanza over Mrs. Claus, which helps the green and black glitters stand out, and the red glitters just glow against the darker red background of Mrs. Claus. So fun and festive!

So here's 1 coat of Streetwear Kwanza over Finger Paints Black Expressionism and then 1 coat of Kwanza over Streetwear Mrs. Claus. Enjoy!

Hi everyone!! Long time, no see! I have missed you all lots! I've been running low in the time department lately so sadly my blogging has taken a back seat but I had to squeeze in a blog post for you all today! Today, my vintage partner in crime, Dana over at Polished Claws Up and I have decided to share some of our vintage Sally Hansen Christmas glitters with you all today! You guys may remember our vintage SH Halloween glitters, and these ones are just as fantastic. Both Dana and I are huge vintage Sally Hansen fans so we are super stoked to share these with you today! We don't know the exact date on these polishes, but I assume they came out during the late 90's-early 00's like most of the other amazing vintage Sally Hansens out there.

First up is Sally Hansen Festive. Festive is a green and red bar glitter with little green and red micro glitters scattered throughout. It has a clear base, so it is best for layering. I decided to layer it over black and I love how it looks!

Next up is Sally Hansen Sugar Plum. Sugar Plum is a light pink, blue and light purple glitter in a purple jelly base. I don't know if the base is purple due to age or if that's how it was back in the day. Either way, the purple base allows me to layer it to full opacity and that is a win in my book! Love how this is still Christmas-y without being your typical red or green. Love it!

Here's 3 coats of Sally Hansen Sugar Plum. Enjoy!
We decided to swatch some of our vintage Urban Decay polishes for you all today. For those who know me or have been reading my blog for awhile, you know that Urban Decay is one of the brands that started my vintage polish obsession. Back in middle and high school in the 90's and early 2000's, Urban Decay was one of my favorite brands of polish. When I got back into nail polish, I set out to find myself some old bottles of UD polish. While it was quite easy to get my hands on the 2nd generation Urban Decay polishes (the silver capped ones) what I was really looking for were the older, 1st generation UD's from the original 1996 release.

Acquiring these super vintage Urban Decay polishes proved to be quite a challenge. I found it easier to seek out OPI polishes from the 80's and first generation Hard Candy polishes than to get my hands on these 1st generation Urban Decays! By chance, I found a bottle of 1st generation Dude (swatched here) on etsy and I figured that would be it for 1st generation Urban Decays. It took me almost two years to find that one and I assumed I would never find another one ever again. However, the itch to find more quickly resumed and I started turning to other bloggers to find them. I found the lovely Diane over at The Beauty Alchemist had 2 old school UD's on her blog and I contacted her and asked if she would be willing to part with them. Luckily, she was and I have swatched both of those polishes today!

When these polishes came to me, they were completely dried up. Every single 1st generation Urban Decay polish I have acquired has been dried up. This is part of the reason why I believe that hardly any 1st generation Urban Decay polishes exist today - there is a default in the design of the cap that allowed too much air in and dried up the polish inside. Back in the day when no one really knew about thinner, the solution was to just toss these polishes away. Thank goodness for the lovely people who knew better and kept their polishes despite the fact that they resembled little hockey pucks sitting in a bottle. Anyways, I took a huge bottle of my handy dandy vintage polish reviver, Seche Restore, and with some shaking and mixing, these bad boys were as good as new!

Soon after, I received four more vintage Urban Decays from the awesome Jet over at Idee Fixe and my first generation UD polish collection now has a grand total of seven! I am pretty happy with my little collection, considering I never thought I would own even one of them! With a lot of thinner and a little bit of patience, all seven polishes have been brought back to life and are ready for polishing! I will show you the polishes from Jet soon but today I have for you Urban Decay Shelter and Stray Dog from the 1997 Urban Animal Collection.

So I hope you guys enjoy these first generation Urban Decay polishes I have for you today! Don't forget to check out Dana's post over at Polished Claws Up! today. She has some second generation Urban Decay polishes for you all. Note the different in the bottle shapes and the logos!
One quick note - I have nubbed my nails. Not really a big deal but I just wanted to warn you all. I have gone without a break on my swatching hand since July and I'm sure I could have gone for much longer, I was just getting sick of having long nails. To be honest, I'm not really a fan of having long nails but my nail beds are all different lengths so it bothers me to have short nails. I keep my nails long so that they can all be a uniform length. But this week I said TO HECK WITH IT and chopped those babies off. Let me tell you, I am really digging having nubs again. I may keep them this way for quite a while. Yeah, they're all uneven and look kind of weird but I love them. Sorry long nail fans, these nubs are here to stay!

Anyways, first up today is Urban Decay Shelter. Shelter is from the 1997 Urban Animal Collection, which Urban Decay created in collaboration with designer Todd Oldham to benefit animal welfare. If you are familiar with the Urban Decay brand, you know that animal welfare is always something they have advocated which is one of the many reasons I love UD. Shelter is an AMAZING green glass fleck polish that is so packed with glass flecks that it is almost metallic. LOVE IT! The formula was fantastic even as old as this polish is.

Here's 3 coats of Urban Decay Shelter. Enjoy!
Next up is Urban Decay Stray Dog, also from the 1997 Urban Animal collection. Stray Dog is probably one of the most unique and amazing polishes in my entire stash. It has a gunmetal grey-taupe base, and it is packed with red and green shimmer. When I first saw this polish, I figured it was just a grey with green flash but it is so much more than that. Never have I seen shimmer like this in a polish before. The green and red color of the shimmer almost make this polish Christmas-y! It is absolutely amazing! I had a tough time capturing the shimmer in pictures, so you may have to enlarge the pics to see what I'm talking about. The formula on this one was a bit tricky, but the reason why I had a bit of trouble with this one wasn't because of the formula but because of the brush. It was extremely misshapen and just terrible. Oh well, I still managed to get this on without any major problems.

Here's 2 coats of Urban Decay Stray Dog. Don't forget to enlarge these pics to check out the phenomenal red and green shimmer in this puppy!
Thanks for stopping by today everyone! I know I have been in and out lately as I have been extremely busy these past few weeks so thanks for sticking around. Sorry this post is a bit late today, I'm having some crazy camera issues. Better have the husband take a look at that. Anyways, welcome to another edition of Retro Sunday Squared with Dana over at Polished Claws Up! Today Dana and I decided to swatch some vintage Cover Girl Nail Slicks for you all! CG Nail Slicks were among my favorite polishes back in the day. I even remember getting this huge giftset of Nail Slicks one year back in the 90's in my Christmas stocking and I was in heaven!

First up is Cover Girl Nail Slicks Mystic Peacock. I saw Mystic Peacock on Dana sometime last year an I fell in love! It is such a gorgeous polish. Mystic Peacock has a blackened teal base with teal shimmer throughout. SO GORGEOUS! I'm not sure how old this polish is but it's definitely from the 1990's. It has that watery, non-3-free formula that was a bit difficult to keep from flooding my cuticles. As a vintage polish lover, this is the kind of thing I expect and it didn't bother me at all. In fact, I think these watery formulas help the shimmer in polish shine through through the layers and add so much depth. Anyways, it took three coats to reach opacity.

So here's 3 coats of Cover Girl Mystic Peacock. Enjoy!

Next up is Cover Girl Mattalic Silver Violet. Silver Violet is a sueded matte silvery-purple polish. I absolutely LOVE this one. I'm not sure what year this came out but I'm guessing early-to-mid 00's. The finish reminds me of the OPI Suedes or the new Avon Suedes that recently came out. I believe this was the first brand to do something like that. In fact, Cover Girl was the very first brand to do crackle polishes back in the day. Believe it or not, Cover Girl was once at the forefront of the nail polish world. I don't even think they do nail polish anymore. Anyways, the formula was a bit tricky as most mattes can be. I had some bald spots and dragging so this took three coats to opacity. Overall, a really cool polish and I'm glad to have it in my stash!

Of course, black and orange is a very popular color combination for Halloween themed polish, but none of the other polishes do it quite as well as Fortune Teller does. Fortune Teller was part of China Glaze's 2009 Halloween collection and is now pretty hard to find. Another good one from that collection was Spellbound, which is another favorite of mine and even more hard to find than Fortune Teller. Alas, I ran out of time to swatch Spellbound for you all. I will definitely be sure to bring it out next Halloween!

Anyways, China Glaze Fortune Teller is a black jelly base packed with a few different sizes of orange hex glitters. It sounds simple enough but the effect it has is absolutely stunning!! Pictured is 3 coats, and it was fairly easy to apply with no problems in the formula. It's almost an unwritten rule that when you wear Fortune Teller, you HAVE to put a matte topcoat over top because it enhances the awesomeness. Hey, I don't make the rules! So of course, I have pictures of it both with regular top coat and with a matte topcoat today.

So here's 3 coats of China Glaze Fortune Teller, first with regular top coat and the last two with a matte top coat (I used Essie's). Enjoy!
Happy Halloween Eve! I hope everyone in the path of Hurricane Sandy is staying safe! I live in Cleveland and although not technically in the direct path of Sandy, it collided with a major cold front and we've been experiencing some crazy winds and rain here. We've had lots of flooding, power outages and major storm damages in the area. Over 500 schools and school districts in the area were closed today (my school not being one of them, of course) so things are definitely crazy around the CLE today. Frankenstorm indeed!

Anyways, back to the polish! Today I have for you another great Halloween polish, Piggy Polish Lightmare. Piggy Polish is a brand that is exclusively available at Ulta and I have never picked up one of their polishes until now. Lightmare is an LE Halloween polish that Piggy Polish released this year, and it proved pretty difficult to me to find. I went to 4 Ultas before I finally was able to snag the very last bottle in the display! This polish is popular for good reason - it is fantastic!!

Lightmare has a base of small gunmetal glitters with coppery-orange medium sized round glitters thrown in! I can definitely say I don't have anything like this in my stash, which is great because a lot of the big brands' Halloween polishes tend to look the same after awhile. The formula on this was a bit tricky, it was pretty gloopy and hard to work with. Pictured is two coats of Lightmare, and these two coats were kind of difficult to smooth out but the end result was well worth it. I did do a coat of Seche Vite over it and it was still a bit gritty but not too bad. My bottle of SV is getting kind of thick anyways so it's been smoothing out glitters quite nicely. Lightmare has a Halloween feel to it without being too run-of-the-mill orange and black. I would say it is a solid 9 out of 10 in my book!

Here's 2 coats of Piggy Polish Lightmare. Enjoy!
What's This?Good morning everyone!! Today I have for you another polish from this year's Dollish Polish Halloween collection, What's This? What's This? This Nightmare Before Christmas inspired collection is definitely my favorite Halloween collection that came out this year from any brand, big or indie brand. The colors in this collection are so varied and cover every possible facet of the season, from glow-in-the-dark glitter, to a slimy looking green color, to vampy and deep colors to your traditional Halloween colored glitter bombs.

What's This, What's This is a veritable glitter extravaganza with all the colors of Halloween. There's 2 different shades of green glitter, 2 different shades of purple glitter, orange glitter, black glitter and white glitter in all different shapes and sizes. There's small squares, there's big squares, there's big hexes, there's small hexes, there's micro glitter, and there's bar glitter. WHAT IS THIS? It is the ultimate Halloween polish, that's what it is.

Application was average for a glitterbomb, it took a bit of dabbing and it was kind of gloopy. The brush that I got in my bottle was pretty deformed, so that probably contributed to the bit of difficulty I had with application. But overall, I was extremely pleased with this polish and I honestly could not imagine a more perfect Halloween glitter.

Here's 2 coats of Dollish Polish What's This? What's This? over Finger Paints Black Expressionism. Enjoy!
Quick apology for my absence, I have a lot going on in school right now so my posts are going to be sparse for the next few weeks. But never fear, I could never abandon you all! I'm back today with a quick post of one of my favorite Halloween polishes in my stash, $OPI If You've Got It, Haunt It. I believe this is one of the only (if not THE only) Halloween collections that Sephora by OPI has done and this was definitely the standout of the collection. I believe the other two were a white glow-in-the-dark polish and a matte black. In fact, If You've Got It, Haunt It blows pretty much everything that the regular OPI brand has done for Halloween in a few years as well. I'm a huge fan of this polish and I hope you guys enjoy it!

If You've Got It, Haunt It is from Sephora by OPI's 2010 Halloween collecton. It is a very unique polish, I have nothing like it in my stash! IYGIHI is has a smoky grey jelly base packed with black glitter with silver and blue opalescent micro glitter that flashes blue, green and orange. At the time, this polish was kind of a big deal due to the use of black glitter. Nowadays black glitter is everywhere but this polish still holds a special place in my heart because it is so cool looking. It was super thick and I probably could have gotten away with one coat but I did two for photos. It doesn't exactly scream Halloween to me but I love it just the same =)

Here's 2 coats of Sephora by OPI If You've Got It, Haunt It. Enjoy!
Thanks for stopping by today everyone and I hope you all are doing well! I can't wait to catch up on everyone's blogs and see what you all have been up to! Talk to you all soon =)Jacqui of The Scholarly Nailhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13977226973423191831noreply@blogger.com29tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257710695715677931.post-3061795113244364552012-10-18T08:49:00.001-04:002012-10-18T08:55:06.817-04:00Vintage Sally Hansen Slime and Giveaway Winners!Good morning everyone!! I have another quick vintage Sally Hansen post for you today!! As some of you may have gathered, vintage Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Halloween polishes are among the most prized polishes in my stash and I feel very lucky to have them as they are very rare. Upon reading Kaz's blog about these Sally Hansen's the other day, I realized that my dates for these collections have been 1 year off. So, the first two I showed you were actually from the 2000 collection and Vampira was from the 1999 collection.

Anyways, today I have for you vintage Sally Hansen Slime, which was from the 2000 Hard as Nails Halloween collection. Slime is a bright green glitter in a murky green jelly base. I thought this was going to be similar to Jack-o-Lantern in that the base would become opaque after a few coats but Slime's base was much more sheer. I probably should have layered it over another polish but instead, I was determined to cover my VNL and ended up doing 4 coats of Slime. I do like how it turned out because you can see that murky green base color poking through but it was a bit of a pain to get it to look nice. Slime probably could have been another candidate for Fug Friday, it definitely has that "ugly-pretty" vibe going for it.

So here's 4 coats of vintage Sally Hansen Slime. Enjoy!

Anyways, today is a very special post! This was actually supposed to be posted yesterday but I was having some issues yesterday morning and it never happened. So, I'm posting it a day late. Yesterday was my 2 year wedding anniversary with my wonderful husband!! I know I've mentioned it on here before but our wedding was the absolute best day of our lives. It was a dream wedding, the ceremony outdoors under the changing fall leaves with pumpkins lining the aisle and the reception was in an old barn, with chandeliers and pumpkins and black and orange everywhere! We even had a bonfire. Yes, it was our perfect wedding. But what made it even more perfect was that I married the guy of my dreams, my best friend, the greatest person I know and the love of my life. Haha, okay, enough with the mushy stuff!

To celebrate our 2 year anniversary, I knew I had to used Dollish Polish's We're Simply Meant to Be from this year's Nightmare Before Christmas collection that she did for Halloween! We're Simply Meant to be is an amazing glitter in a clear base with pink and blue microglitters and blue, yellow and burgundy large hex glitters. If you haven't seen the Nightmare Before Christmas you may be a bit confused as to why these colors make a Halloween polish. These colors fit into this collection because they are the colors of Jack Skellington's girlfriend Sally's ragdoll clothing. So awesome!

I absolutely LOVE We're Simply Meant to Be! One of the reasons why I love Dollish Polish in general is because they don't use a lot of those matte glitters - you know, the ones where you can see the paper lines on the glitter - because I'm really just not a fan of them. I like my glitters to be reflective and shiny, and that is exactly what these glitters are. The colors look so amazing together! I decided to layer WSMTB over China Glaze Immortal, a fantastic grey shimmer and it really provided an awesome base for all the awesome colors in this polish.

So enough talking, on to the pics! Here is two coats of Dollish Polish We're Simply Meant to Be over China Glaze Immortal. Definitely click these to enlarge, you'll want to soak in every detail. Enjoy!

Good morning everyone! Super quick post for you all today. It's another busy week so I probably won't be able to catch up on reading everyone's blogs until the end of this week again. I wish I could sit and read blogs all day long!!

I have another vintage Sally Hansen Halloween polish for you all. This time it's Vampira, from the 1998 Halloween collection. Vampira is the only one I have from this collection which is proving to be more difficult to get my hands on than even the 1997 collection! Anyways, I'm glad to have this polish because it is another one of my favorites.

Sally Hansen Vampira has a dark red jelly base (blood red, if you will) with silver and bright red micro square glitter. I just LOVE those teeny, tiny square glitters. When I first saw a picture of this on eBay, I figured it was going to be another one of those black base with red glitter polishes a la Lubu Heels, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The blood red base mixed with the red and silver square glitters put Vampira in a class all its own! Application was a breeze and it was opaque in 2 coats, although I probably should have done 3 for the pics, as there are a few bald spots that the camera picked up. Oh well!

So sorry it took awhile to get this post up, my computer keeps crashing =( Not good, not good at all! Anyways, Dana and I are back with yet another Halloween edition of Retro Sunday Squared! We are so excited about this one because we are both obsessed with vintage Sally Hansens and were both lucky enough to get our hands on tons of the vintage Halloween Sally Hansens recently! These vintage Halloween Sally Hansens have been at the top of my wishlist FOR EVER and I never thought I would see most of them in my lifetime. They came out between 1997-1999 for Halloween and after that, the Hard as Nails line stopped doing Halloween collections. So, we are VERY lucky to have found an eBay store who recently got a few of them in from old, closeout and liquidated stock.

These vintage Sally Hansen Halloween polishes may be some of my favorite polishes in my entire 1200+ polish collection. Of course, I love Halloween so that's a given but the colors they did were absolutely stunning and I love the matching caps as well. I wish I could convey to you how truly excited I am to have finally added these polishes to my collection, but you would have had to see me jumping up and down like a crazy person when they popped up on eBay to truly understand =)
First up is Sally Hansen Jack-o-Lantern. Jack-o-Lantern is from their 1999 Halloween collection and is an orange jelly packed with copper glitter. O M G you guys this is SUCH an awesome polish. It took 3 coats for opacity and applied like a gem. It is a very bright orange for sure. If I could buy an entire gallon of Jack-o-Lantern, I would. In fact, I would like an entire bathtub full of this polish. Backup worthy? Pshhh try bathtub worthy! There's not really much else to say here, I will let the pictures do the talking.

Here's 3 coats of Sally Hansen Jack-o-Lantern. Enjoy!

Next up is Sally Hansen Trick or Treat. I am so thrilled to finally have this polish in my stash because I almost had it once before but it was ripped out from under me! I set up a swap with a very nice girl from MUA who lived in Latvia who was sending me Trick or Treat. Sadly, the package got lost in the mail and I was absolutely devastated. We filed multiple investigations and claims with both the Latvian and US Post and it was never found =( So imagine my excitement when this bad boy popped up on eBay last month!

Anyways, Trick or Treat is a black jelly polish with lots of multi-colored iridescent glitter. When I first saw pics of this polish, I thought it was going to be holo glitter but it is definitely NOT holo glitter. The effect that these iridescent glitters have up against the black base is absolutely stunning. I was thinking about layering a coat of this over black to conserve the polish, but I just love the depth of the glitters when layering a few coats of this. Another bathtub worthy polish for sure!

Here's 3 coats of Sally Hansen Trick or Treat. Enjoy!
I am so excited about today's post! My friend Rachel over at stuff i (s)watched and I have decided to team up and do a series on some of our fantastically fugly polishes! We both have great affinity for those kinds of polishes where you just can't decide whether it's ugly, awesome or awesomely ugly. Upon deep and thoughtful consideration (i.e. a twitter conversation), Rach and I have come to the conclusion that the best fugly polishes are those that closely resemble bodily secretions. Yes, I'm talking about baby poop yellows and puke greens here people. I don't know why but sometimes the more hideous a color is, the more I love it!

The first polish I've chosen for Fug Friday is one of my favorite Halloween polishes of all time, China Glaze Zombie Zest. It is from the 2010 Awakening collection which, as you may know, is probably one of the best Halloween collections that China Glaze has ever done. Zombie Zest has a murky greenish-brown jelly base packed with yellowish-green glass flecks. I feel like the overall effect is a cross between baby poop and zombie flesh. So fugly, yet so awesome at the same time. Whoever thought to cross this dingy, swampy base color with the bright glass flecks is pure genius. Zombie Zest is the perfect color for Halloween and a perfect example of what fug polishes all around the world should aspire to be.

Zombie Zest is a bit on the sheer side, so it took three coats to cover my visible nail line. The overall fugliness of it probably stands out better at two coats so maybe one day when I have nubs, I will wear the polish again and let the base show through a bit more. Overall, the formula on this polish was fantastic. Application was easy, the consistency was great so there was no worry of cuticle flooding or anything like that. Even though this polish came out in 2010, it's still relatively easy to find from online retailers. In fact, there are several places that still have it for around $3 a bottle.

Here's 3 coats of China Glaze Zombie Zest. Enjoy! And don't forget to check out Rach's Fug Friday post over at stuff i (s)watched!
One step closer to the weekend! Continuing right along with my Halloween polish collection, today I have OPI Unripened for you all!

OPI Unripened is a color from OPI's 2010 Halloween Collection that was called Go Goth. All the other colors in the color were dupes for current colors in OPI's line but Unripened was not. I kind of have a bone to pick with OPI about their Halloween collections. First of all, they are usually most accessible in a box set with only minis, with the full sizes being even harder to find. Second of all, usually the colors aren't even all that great. This year's collection was a huge disappointment, and I actually didn't even buy them. OPI needs to take a cue from China Glaze in regards to their Halloween collections and step it up! Regardless, Unripened was the best OPI Halloween color we have seen in a few years so I guess I can't complain too much.

Unripened is a black polish packed with multichrome shimmer that shifts from teal to purple to pink. Sadly, the multichrome aspect of the shimmer is nearly impossible to pick up on the nail, though it does look pretty amazing in the bottle. I only have a mini of this polish, as they were on sale at Target early this year for like 60 cents a bottle and I couldn't pass them up! The full size of this is much harder to find, although I do believe there a few full sized bottles on eBay right now. The good news is that OPI Unripened is pretty much a dupe for Sinful Colors What's Your Name and there are several others that are similar as well. So, although it's not all that unique it's definitely the best Halloween polish OPI has done recently so it firmly holds a place in my stash.

Here's 2 coats of OPI Unripened. I tried super hard to capture the color shifting nature of the shimmer in this and the best instances of this are the last two pictures. They're a bit blurry but you can make out hints of purple shimmer in them. Definitely click to enlarge these bad boys. Enjoy!
I have another quick post for you all today, this week is crazy busy for me. I hope to catch up on my blog reading and commenting tomorrow and I can't wait to see what you all have blogged about this week!

Today I have another vintage Halloween Streetwear for you all called Monster Mash. Monster Mash is from the same collection as Oct 31st and is as rare, if not even more rare than Oct 31st is. The fact that Oct 31st popped up on eBay was a miracle but then Monster Mash popped up a few weeks later and I was absolutely awestruck! After another pretty hefty bidding war, Monster Mash became mine and joined Oct 31st in my Streetwear helmer drawer. Oct 31st and Monster Mash are probably two polishes that I never thought I would see in my lifetime so the fact that they showed up on eBay around the same time was pretty fantastic. The moral of the story is never give up on those lemmings folks! You never know when they might show up.

Anyways, Monster Mash is a fantastic green glitter polish with different shades and shapes of green glitter including bar glitter and little hex glitter as well as microglitter. There's even a touch of black microglitter in there, which seems to be on par with a lot of other special Streetwear glitters (namely Oct 31st, Black Widow and FX Flash green). I chose to wear Monster Mash on its own but I'm sure it would have looked awesome layered as well. I estimate that this polish came out sometime during the late 90's and it was still good as new. 2 coats would have been sufficient enough to cover the nail in real life but I did 3 just in case.

Here's 3 coats of Streetwear Monster Mash. Enjoy!
Thanks for all the well wishes on my Torts midterm yesterday, I survived it so that's definitely a step in the right direction =)

Today I have the other polish I picked up from the Revlon Top Speed Sweetly Sinister collection, Haunted Heart. Now, if Wicked Star didn't convince you of this collection's awesomeness, maybe this one will! Haunted Heart is an AWESOME bright orange with greenish-yellow shimmer throughout. This one is so glowy and fantastic, I just can't get enough! The formula was a bit on the thick side just like Wicked Star, but I didn't have any problems with application. 2 thin coats and I was good to go! You can still see a bit of the brushstrokes but it really doesn't look frosty IRL. Just shimmery and glowy!

So here's 2 coats of Revlon Haunted Heart. Enjoy!
Ugh, I have my Torts midterm today and I am so not looking forward to it. We got through an entire textbook in the first half of the semester so our midterm is on 17 chapters of info. I am basically delirious from studying at this point! Anyways, to cheer myself up on this cold and dreary October Monday, I have one of my favorite indie Halloween polishes - Dollish Polish Vampire's Coven!

Dollish Polish's Halloween collection this year is based on The Nightmare Before Christmas, one of the greatest movies of all-time IMHO. What a perfect theme to base a Halloween collection on! Can't wait to show you guys the rest of them too (or as many as I can get through this month with all the other Halloween polishes I have). This one is based on that little coven of vampires who move around with umbrellas in the movie =) Out of the entire collection, Vampire's Coven seems one of the more popular ones, always selling out quicker than most of the others.

Anyways, Vampire's Coven is a red and purple chunky glitter polish with sparse bits of gold micro glitter in a sheer black jelly base. This is definitely a layering polish so I layered 2 coats of Vampire's Coven over Revlon Devil's Lure, a deep vampy red from Revlon's 2011 Halloween collection. The formula of Vampire's Coven was fantastic, no problems here! I do like this combo but next time I will layer it over a red that is a bit brighter and less black. Although, I think you could put this over just about anything and it would look amazing!

Here's 2 coats of Dollish Polish Vampire's Coven over Revlon Devil's Lure. Definitely click these to enlarge so you can check out the glitter! Enjoy!
All this month, Dana at Polished Claws Up and I have decided to show you some of our best vintage Halloween polishes and we are so excited to bring you guys vintage Revlon Streetwears today =) If you are new to my blog, Revlon Streetwear is a brand that was available in drugstores in the late 90's-early 00's and is one of my favorite vintage polish brands of all time because they really did some unique and fantastic polishes. Dana and I decided to only showcase one vintage Halloween Streetwear for you all today, but to do some layering combos with the polish we chose! Hope you all enjoy!

For my vintage Halloween Streetwear, I chose Oct 31st. Oct 31st was the ultimate #1 polish on my wishlist for a few years and I never thought I would see the day where it would be mine. Well, a few weeks back it popped up on eBay and I bid my little heart out on it and finally it became mine =) Streetwear Oct 31st is a polish from back in the late 90's and it hasn't been sold in stores for over 10 years so it is super rare and if you own a bottle, consider yourself very lucky because it just doesn't show up often anymore. Oct 31st and I are now living happily ever after together.

Streetwear Oct 31st is an orange bar glitter in a clear base with little orange and black microglitters in there as well. It is best layered, so I chose 3 different layering combos for you all today. Being that it is such an old polish, I expected application to be a bit tricky but it was smooth as a whistle! I LOVE YOU OCT 31ST!! Now that I have that out of my system, hope you all enjoy the pictures! Keep in mind that every combo has only one coat of Oct 31st over the base color.
