Vintage Hard Candy Week - The Fugly Cremes

Good morning everyone! I have a super duper quick post today to kick off vintage Hard Candy week - the fugly cremes!! These polishes are two of the ugliest in my entire collection, yet somehow I have great affinity for them. The colors are Hot Rod and Shag, both from Hard Candy's Fall 1997 line that consisted of unusual creme colors. Not only were these polishes ugly, the application was a nightmare. They were suuuuuuper duper runny, and I flooded pretty much every single one of my cuticles. So I have to apologize for these swatches, they are kind of messy. But despite the fugliness and the horrible application, these polishes are essential for my Hard Candy collection and I'm glad that I have them!

Here's 2 coats of Hard Candy Hot Rod, an orange leaning mustard yellow.

And here's 2 coats of Hard Candy Shag, a lovely greyed-out puke green creme. Enjoy!

Despite their messiness and non-skin flattering shades, I can't help but love them! What do you guys think?

Thanks for stopping by and see you all tomorrow for more vintage Hard Candy goodness!

  4. Soooooooo ugly and soooooo perfect. I love colors like this. That stinks about the formula, though! But what do you mean, messy swatches? They look flawless to me!

  6. They're gorgeous but too bad about the application!! Look fab on ya :)

  7. I think they are both beautiful. The first one looks like Desert Sun, China Glaze. The second one is a nice pastel sage green. My question is Who are these people who still have these old Hard Candies that are selling them on eBay? Did they intentionally hang on to them for all these years?

    1. Glad you like them!! That is an excellent question, it's probably collectors selling off their collections because I never really see more than one of the good ones at a time. There are some Hard Candy colors that are always seen in large quantities on eBay (such as Pixie) and those were probably acquired from dead stock or closeouts. But yeah, the really good ones hardly ever pop up anymore!

    1. Indeed!! I don't mind too much about the formula issues since these are vintage polishes but they were definitely a pain to swatch!

  19. I have a polish thats a dupe (nearly) for the top polish and I have a love/hate relationship with it. I wear it but only when I'm not going anywhere because I think people will ask me what the hell colour am I wearing! Now that I see you wearing it and proclaiming love for the fugly colours, I am gonna wear it with pride :D
